We received a call earlier today from the Humane Society in Phoenix to find out if we had room for a couple of surrendered parakeets. We are a Foster/Adoption Partner with them and they call us when they need our help. I drove out to pick up the parakeets only to find that they were not parakeets at all. They were the oddest bird couple Ive ever seen! A bonded Senegal and a Quaker! They were surrendered by a family of a deceased relative. The family didnt know what to do because they didnt know how to handle the birds to physically get them to the shelter. A Field Agent from the Humane Society was sent out to retrieve the parakeets. There is no information about these birds. The owners family didnt know anything about them. No cage was given because the Field Agents vehicle didnt have room. These two parrots are very traumatized! I cant even imagine what theyve been through. For now they are in our quarantine room. They will have a vet appointment this week. The Quaker has a problem with her left foot or leg. It may be an old injury or a deformed limb. We will keep you posted on the progress.
