We received a referral call yesterday to install some whole house - TopicsExpress

We received a referral call yesterday to install some whole house audio equipment. The caller identified that he had wiring and speakers installed. Our technician Logan went out to site survey. Our solution: nothing! Why? The house had some wiring. Thats correct; however, it was wired with cat5e instead of speaker wire. And, it was wired from the volume control to a little mini speaker with cat5e in each zone that looked like it was bought in some sort of retail package, then, from the volume control back to a structured wiring panel with cat5e. Part of this would be right IF it were an Abus type system, but it wasnt. It was regular volume controls that would hook up to an amp (that will not fit in a structured wiring panel). Awaiting a call from the builder. This is a brand new home. >$350,000. Ultimate solution: cut drywall to run appropriate wiring that will have to be patched, fish new wires to another location, replace speakers. Please ask before buying a new home if the wiring was performed by licensed professionals! Several builders just hire it out to someone that says they know how to do the job. They may have had no training at all!
