We received yet another call for help (3 this week so far) from people whose male Akita got into trouble in the last few days...either with a human or another animal. Yes, there were bites and stitches involved. All were described as well-socialized family pets with never a cause for concern before this. Common denominator I see? None of them are neutered and all of them, of various ages, were described as just started to get cranky and growly in the last few days, weeks, or months. Statistically, most male dogs, of any breed, involved in bite incidents are not neutered. They also dig out, jump fences and do other things most other ones dont do all in the quest for some relief with a willing female they can smell miles away. We know of all the health benefits to neutering dogs, not to mention controlling the out of control dog population, so whats the excuse now? If someone cant bear the idea of Rover walking around without his sack hanging down visit: neuticles. And no, this is not a testimonial for testicular implants in dogs. Personally, I think theyre ridiculous, but to each his own. Please, NEUTUER your dogs.
