We visited my mother in Sway, Hampshire, about a week ago. Although we promised to visit her last July, that plan was derailed due to the unfortunate incident in Santorini that resulted in an extended holiday in Athens. After we were repatriated back to Belgium (thank god we had taken out travel insurance) I was unable to drive Jenny in the car for any distance without the permission of our GP, which was duly granted. Once in Sway, we dined at a local pub-restaurant, where we were attended by a waiter who I imagined had turned many female heads in his direction. He talked to us in-between waiting on other customers and it turns out that he has a degree in marine biology and was aiming for permanent residential status in Canada where he had stayed before. Now, heres where it gets interesting. During one of his Canadian visits, an American friend visited Cuba via Canada just to be on the safe side, or so he thought. A couple of years later, he receives a notice from Fath...er...Homeland Security demanding that either he pays a $10,000 fine or they would revoke his passport for five years for the unspeakable crime of visiting Cuba. This had to have happened with the complicity of the Canadian government.
