We were born only yesterday and know nothing, and our days on earth are but a shadow. (Job 8:9) Job had lived a long time as he began to have all the struggles in his life. Like Job, all human beings count their lives in terms of minutes, hours, days, months and years. But to God our lives are but a moment .. a blink of time in eternity: Job never learned exactly why he suffered, but he did learn his place in the universe before an Almighty God (Job 38-41). Remember when we were young -- time passed so very slowly — especially if we are waiting for something special! But as we get older, the years fly by more and more quickly. Yet despite all our learning, despite all our experience, we come to two great truths: our knowledge compared to what there is to know is almost nothing .. so very small and our place in the passage of time is so very short .. only a moment. Awareness of both of these truths prepare us to turn our lives and future over to our God who longs to bring us to himself. Life is so short and we only get this one chance. Why would anyone refuse the great gift that God offers us?
