We were reminiscing about Js Amusement Park today; so many memories for a generation of River folks. It was a small family run operation hidden away in the woods at Hwy 116 & Drake Blvd. It originally opened in the 1960s and closed in 2003. These images were shot in November 2008 and January 2009. The rickety Mad Mouse Roller Coaster dominated the site. In the center of the yard was the Scrambler ride, one of those spinning, County fair-style pot-metal puke-inducers that you can just picture flinging its parts into the parking lot. Nature has almost completely reclaimed the Disney Autopia-style go-kart track, disappearing into landscaping run amok. The rusting remnants of the Tilt-A-Whirl and bumper car rides were finally removed a few years ago. Today the forest is reclaiming the land and Js remains a thrill-filled memory.
