We will have a solid foundation since we are grooming all of our own players via draft. But I say safety because woodson cant play forever and branch is injury prone and our depth is strictly second string caliber in my opinion. Id like to fill in all the stop gaps, with drafted players which must be the plan. But Donald Penn only has a few years left and Id like to see him move to guard soon and have a franchise LT. Burris is nowhere near a starter, find another mlb to groom behind roach Well, I’ll concede that the risk of injury for our four veteran safeties is relatively high, so depth is definitely an issue here, but healthy I think they’re one of the better units in the league, not to mention the young talent (Larry Asante and Jonathan Dowling) we have waiting in the wings. As you say, however, I’m never against upgrading a position or preparing for the future, so drafting another FS/SS in a late round couldn’t hurt. I can also agree the Miles Burris has proven himself not to be a long term option at linebacker. He’s a tackle machine but not much else. I had originally supported him over Sio Moore, and admittedly, I was wrong. Either way, given Roach’s concussion issues and our general injury bug at LB this year, we most definitely need some fresh blood at the position. That said, I don’t think Penn needs to move inside with Howard and Jackson manning the guard positions. Barring injury, I don’t see why they can’t all stay put. Maybe one day, Howard and Penn could switch places, but they’ve all played so well this year I just don’t see the point of worrying about it now. In addition, as has become clear, our running issues earlier this year we’re more on our washed up running backs (DMC and MJD) than on our O-Line. In contrast, Murray and Reece have been tearing it up out there. The fact that Sparano, Olson and co. waited so long to plug Murray in is almost enough to put them out of a job in my eyes.
