Weather Report for Fort Kent, Maine & Vicinity 7:00 AM ET | Friday, August 22, 2014 A dissipating upper-low slides from New York State into the Gulf of Maine and brings a slight chance for isolated showers through the day if enough moisture proves available. Fort Kent residents can expect partly sunny skies through the evening. Overnight, the Valley experiences mostly clear conditions with some scattered clouds possible as surface high pressure builds in. In other areas, scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across the central Plains Friday afternoon into the overnight hours. Large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes are possible. Other more isolated severe storms are expected across coastal North Carolina. Locally strong winds are the primary severe threat with this activity. In the Atlantic basin, shower activity associated with the small low pressure area (Invest 96L) moving over the Leeward Islands remains limited and disorganized. Interaction of the low with Puerto Rico and Hispaniola will likely inhibit significant development through tonight. However, environmental conditions are expected to be more conducive for development when the disturbance moves near or over the southeastern Bahamas on Saturday, and a tropical depression is likely to form over the weekend or by early next week. Regardless of tropical cyclone formation, gusty winds and heavy rainfall are expected across portions of the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands today, and over Hispaniola and the southeastern Bahamas tonight and Saturday. The NHC projects an 80% chance of tropical development with this system over the next 5 days. In Fort Kent today: High: 74° Low: 50° East/northeast winds around 2-3 mph. ________________________ Saturday, August 23, 2014 High pressure centered north of the region slides south towards the Valley bringing mostly sunny skies and warm conditions. There is a slight chance for afternoon showers. Overnight, mostly clear skies with a waning crescent moon are anticipated. High: 78° Low: 54° North/northwest winds around 2-4 mph ________________________ Sunday, August 24, 2014 High pressure remains in control with another day of mostly sunny skies and seasonable late summer weather. Overnight, a few clouds will be scattered about the region. High: 82° Low: 58° Northerly winds become westerly at 4-6 mph ________________________ Further Ahead High pressure at the surface and in the upper-levels dominates the regions weather Monday through Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and clear nights through the period. High pressure moves east with a cold front approaching from the west with increasing chances for afternoon showers Tuesday. The front moves closer Wednesday with a chance for showers and thundershowers over the course of the day. Thursday and Friday are more uncertain with less model clarity, but high pressure appears to build in after the fronts passage at the end of the upcoming week. High temperatures climb into the middle 80s Monday and Tuesday with highs in the lower 80s on Wednesday and the middle 70s Thursday. Lows range from the upper 50s to lower 60s for the period.
