Weather Situation Bulletin: Law enforcement continues to ask everyone to stay off the roads. Bridges and over passes will be closed on an as-needed basis as DOTD crews work to de-ice areas of concern. Icy conditions, last week, contributed to 700 wrecks statewide, two of them fatal. If you must get on the roads, youre reminded to reduce your speed, leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, and wear your seatbelt. Another concern is the possibility of wide spread power outages. Dick Gremillion with the Office of Emergency says residents should remember to keep the areas of space heaters and open flames free from items that may spark a fire. Also, use caution with generators. Never use a generator inside a home or building. Finally, beware of icing on stairs and pavement surrounding your home. The slippery conditions can lead to falls and possible injuries.
