Week 13 Theme: Spiritual Ties The Monday Crew Shall we pray Father in Jesus name, we come to You this morning with thanksgiving in our hearts. Thank You for Your word. Indeed this is the only bread that truly satisfies. Help us to get the truth You have for us today so it may set us free. We are aware that many people perish for luck of knowledge and that is why we want to be wiser by seeking Your counsel. In Jesus name we pray, amen. Praise the Lord precious people. Am really grateful to God for this opportunity to serve on this altar. Allow me start by defining our theme. Let me use synonyms. A TIE can be defined as a bond, a link, a connection, a relationship, a liaison or a restriction. Therefore, SPIRITUAL TIES OR BONDAGE simply means a state of being under control of a force or influence. Having defined the key term, may i now highlight areas of concern that we should look at, among others, as we journey together throughout this week. These include: 1. Can a Christian live in bondage ? 2. How do we get into bondages ? 3. How do we come out ? Halleluya, may the Holy Spirit help us tackle everything carefully. Mine today will be a kind of introduction to lay the foundation for our weeks sharing. Now, let me focus on how spiritual bondages come about. Lets hear what Jesus says about Himself in John 14:30 I WILL NOT SPEAK WITH YOU MUCH LONGER, FOR THE PRINCE OF THIS WORLD IS COMING. HE HAS NO HOLD ON ME. Halleluya. We all know that Jesus never sinned. There was no sin in Jesus. Therefore, there was nothing in Jesus for satan to tempt Him with. There was no foothold or opening for him to rule over Jesus. What is the implication here ? Th implication is, we human beings with our fallen nature, are predisposed to being bound. There is an opening in us which was executed in the garden of Eden that has a tendency of drawing to satan. This means that if we are careless, we can easily open up areas in our lives to be manipulated by Satan. In Ephesians 4:27we are cautioned: ...DO NOT GIVE THE DEVIL A FOOTHOLD In short, we are told not to give the devil an opportunity to bind us. We should not give him ground to attach himself on us. Halleluya. It is worthwhile to point out here that the controlling force or influence always begins small through lusts of the flesh which if not arrested, they graduate into a foothold and finally a stronghold. This is where someone is fully in bondage. Let me illustrate: Someone betrays you really bad and you get hurt. Your flesh is hurt. You are in pain. But what does the word of God say? The word says FORGIVE. The Holy Spirit convicts you to forgive the person but you refuse. Here, the flesh is fighting the spirit. Your refusal to forgive has now given the devil a FOOTHOLD to come in and thoroughly manipulate your flesh. The devil will now tell you: what that person did to you was very unfair. Find a way of avenging. Dont even greet him when you meet. Aha. Now unforgiveness has graduated to resentment and finally, you will become a very bitter person. Now the devil has a stronghold in you. You are bound. You are under his control. Have you seen the genesis of this stronghold? ?? Yes, it is the flesh. So let us be careful lest we give a foothold to the devil which he can use to enslave you. Precious people, let the subsequent groups build on this foundation. God bless you, God bless us. Shalom
