But even that hymn was not the first. That honor goes to the angels’ hymn that accompanied their announcement of the birth of Jesus to the shepherds outside Bethlehem (Luke 2:13). The Christmas carols familiar to contemporary Christians in the West deserve our Christmas attention. They are biblical, beautiful, bountiful, and often breathtaking in the praise and honor they ascribe to Christ. There are so many ways to enjoy music today.
