Welcome Southern Graphics Alliance Print Conference Attendees, fans of traditional printmaking techniques, fans of political printmaking as a peaceful form of protest, and fans of Back to the Picture! In conjunction with the Southern Graphics Alliance 42nd Annual Conference, Back to the Picture is featuring three portfolios in its gallery: Un-Settling Alliances: Connecting Our Liberation Anti-Colonial Prints by Bay Area artists, printed at Kala Institute in Berkeley, curated by Emmanuel C. Montoya and Paper Buck, Un-Settling Alliances brings together 11 artists of varied backgrounds, generations, and relationships to anti-colonialism to focus on connections across struggles for self-determination, decolonization, and collective liberation. Drawing from artists who engage in social, political, & cultural themes, the project hopes to visualize and build cross-movement relationships. Posada Presente A print portfolio organized by Instituto Grafico de Chicago, Posada Presente features prints by 32 artists from the United States and México to mark the 100-year anniversary of Méxicos most-recognized satirical and political printmaker, based on the theme, What would Posada print today? In the spirit of Posada, these artists responded to a contemporary social issue pertinent to their worldview. Curated by Juan R. Fuentes. Acteal Portfolio with 22 woodcuts This portfolio of woodblock prints includes 22 artists from México who have pulled prints commemorating the 15-year anniversary of the Acteal killings in Chiapas, México. A powerful collection rendered through a strong printmaking technique, these prints strive to continue to shed light on the injustice of the massacre in Chiapas. On view through April 1 only, come in today to see this selection of hand-pulled prints by master printmakers!
