Well, Joey, that’s a good point. What’s going on currently is very basically due to human greed. It’s not that greed is anything new, hardly, it’s that the capabilities of the greedy to obtain more and more have become so sophisticated and fast and the damage it can create to others is on a far larger scale, as in global. A lot of the greed goes back to the 19th and early 20th centuries when rising industrialism and rapid transportation made generated monolithic sums of money in a brief period possible. This was often coupled with a great deal of duplicity on the part of the rich. Just one example I can mention is John D Rockefeller. By all accounts he was an incredibly ruthless businessman and thought nothing of running over anyone to achieve his business goals, even the U.S. government. The irony (and duplicity) was that in his personal life he cloaked himself as a philanthropist and a very religious fellow. He donated huge sums to various charities and causes and was very commonly known to sing hymns at public events and press conferences. It was clearly a double standard and maybe a double life (God will have to judge that). Nowadays no one much bothers with such duplicity, they just are greedy and act greedy and give only to show off if even that. We live in capitalism run rampant and technology allows those who tread that path to not only accumulate but to decimate at record speeds. The result? Hey, look around you…talk to the man or woman on the street…go queue up with the long lines of job seekers…notice the foreclosure signs…or the shuttered windows of small businesses and corporations left in the dust.
