Well, after two years of being on antibiotics, trips to Childrens, sleepless nights due to his legs hurting and lots of praying, the doctor today finally dx Benjamin. Even though his very first set of blood work identified RA, the doctor still insisted that strep could also be causing the rash. This boy has taken an antibiotic for 2 years and has never complained. He just wanted his legs to stop hurting. However, the past 6 months, Ive had to give him his pain meds more than I ever have! So at todays appointment, a different set of eyes assessed him. As soon as he looked at his feet and ankles, he asked me how long hes had Psoriasis. I was shocked! So, his final dx........JIA (Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis) Psoriatic subtype. He also suffers from Erythema Nodosum. The new treatment consists of a new drug for Benjamin called Methotrexate. Im a little nervous about this, because it is a chemo drug. However, they assured me this will help him. He takes it once a week and in 4-5 weeks, we will take him back to Childrens for blood work to monitor his liver and his CBC. So, wish us luck and hopefully this nightmare will finally be behind us and Benjamin can get on with his life in a normal capacity. I told him at least he has something in common with the pro golfer, Phil Mickelson!!! He deals with it daily and lives a pretty normal life. Fingers crossed. Hes an awesome young man who I happen to adore! .
