Well, almost 5,000 signatures later, and a poll saying about 75% of people disagree with it, its all finally over. You can all stop being bombarded with FB updates about this big ordinance from a little town. I think we all did a pretty awesome job. The ordinance passed 3-2. While we were unable to get this ugly piece of legislation scrapped, we were at least able to make the changes needed to hopefully, maybe, possibly be able to throw a festival in our area. The challenge has become quite burdensome and intensive, but Im happy to say the possibility exists at least, where it did not before. The manner in which the Board of Supervisors thinks it is reasonable to host a public hearing, however, is borderline atrocious. Not sure why they feel they have the right to interrupt someones 3 minutes, as well as deny someone to ask a follow up question if they dont agree with their stance, while allowing another person to go on for 10 minutes or allow follow up questions from people who agree with them. Its also laughable how they do not even seem to understand common first amendment issues, and how they ask the county counsel the same exact questions every meeting, multiple times. If this process has taught me one thing, its how important it is for the true community in this county (you know, the ones who are actually out and about, and contributing to it?) to get ready to step up, register to vote, convince others to register, and get it done. Last voter turn out around here was abysmal, and if half the people we knew went out and voted next time, I guarantee you we would tip the scales in our favor, and maybe stop all this stuff that doesnt seem to jive with public opinion from happening. I wanted to give a big huge thank you to everyone who has showed so much support through all of this, you guys are amazing.
