Well congratulations all drivers in PA. The new bill passed raises every service from inspection sticker cost, to registration cost, to 28 cents a gallon after 5 years. For what? Oh yea, we need to fix roads and bridges and stuff. Well that would be fine except once again, the politicians are already fighting and trying to take up to 90% of their cut for public transportation and walking paths and bike routes, and shit like that. They need to ditch prevailing wage and get their fing hands out of the till and use the money for ROADS AND BRIDGES. Thats it. No walking paths, or bike trails, no pet projects, nothing but paving and bridges. Heres my prediction. 5 years from now, gas will be 6 bucks, registration and inspection will be 20$ more a year, and the roads will still suck, bridges will be crap, and politicians will be crying that they need more money to fix roads and bridges. I would bet that of 100% of these new fees collected, less than 5% will actually go to paving and bridge repair. Thats me being optimistic too. 95% of that money will go for politician raises, (which theyll heroically refuse, but take anyway cause theyre not allowed to refuse it) pet projects like median strip beautification, and more ez-pass non turnpike monitoring. what is ez-pass non turnpike monitoring you ask? Oh, thats only where the state is pinging your ez-pass all over the state just to see where you are, when, and for how long. Im sure thats not an invasion of privacy at all, and most certainly worth paying more for. But hey, dont worry about it, youll forget all about it because they just wont tell you about it. Theyll just take a little more money here and there until theres nothing left. BUT the big finale will be, when they piss around on bridge repair doing nothing, until theres an actual bridge collapse that kills 30 or 40 motorists. Then theyll have an emergency session and allocate more funding (at our expense) because now the bridges are killing innocent people. Lets take a short cut and use all the new money your collecting and use it for roads and bridges ONLY. And people wonder why Im leaving this state in a couple years (God willing). Yes every state has evil politicians, but PA is actually trying to be just as crooked and f***ed up as Detroit or Chicago.
