Well, folks, its time to get ready for our first general snowfall - TopicsExpress

Well, folks, its time to get ready for our first general snowfall of the season! Areas along the Seacoast of New Hampshire and Massachusetts already had their introduction a couple of weekends ago. The snow will come from an approaching Arctic cold front that youve undoubtedly heard will end society as we know it. It did cause a record low in Casper, Wyoming in the 20s below zero! It wont be that bad here. A small storm will be developing along the cold front to our south as it moves through the area overnight. The timing on this is critical since the front is racing through at top speed. As such, Im not expecting much more than an inch for NH south of the Lakes Region, Maine south of a line between US Route 2 and the Maine Turnpike and Vermont south of Rutland. Areas to the north will see nothing from the ocean storm but will get into home-grown snow showers from the northwest wind that kicks up Friday. The heaviest precipitation from this storm will be on Cape Cod and the Islands. However, the atmosphere looks to warm there to be anything more than rain and a few snowflakes mixed. The area just to the northwest (mainly northern Rhode Island and the Canton/Foxborough/Wrentham area) could see more: possibly 2-3 The snow shouldnt really start before Midnight in most places and will be done by 9:00 AM. This does mean snow for the morning commute and, for the first time for many this season, snow covered or slushy/slick roads. Still, with the fast speed of the front, I cant see much more than an inch or two for most. Even that might be pushing it. Be safe out there on Friday morning and have a good weekend! Another storm is on our radar for Monday into Tuesday. This one looks like rain with rain and snow north and west of Concord.
