Well, friends, I dont usually post that much, but this time Im afraid I have a lot to say. I have been living in my one bedroom apartment for three years. I have paid my rent on time, and have been a very considerate neighbor. Well, my daughter and her family recently had a fire in their house, and because of the chemical foam that ended up all over everything, and in the ventilation system, is temporarily uninhabitable. (Bear in mind that their original house on this property burnt to the ground, just a few years ago and they lost everything). Their insurance is refusing to pay for hotel accomodations until the house can be professionally cleaned, so they had no choice but to stay with me, just until they are able to safely go back into their house. Well, my LANDLORDs office called me and told me that they would have to leave. God forbid, I did not ask his permission for them to be here! (Mind you, it is my daughter and her husband, my 3 year-old granddaughter, and 1 year-old grandson. They have two small dogs, who pretty much do nothing but lay around and sleep.) Needless to say, I told them that this is my family, and it is an emergency situation. It is also the dead of winter! I have no intention of having them leave until they can safely go back home. Long story short, last week I received an eviction notice informing me that I would have to vacate the premises by March 1. The letter is dated February 1, but I did not receive it until the middle of last week, around Feb 4. I have received copies of the SAME letter every single day since. In order to evict a tenant, isnt there a minimum of 30 days notice, if not more? I am looking for an apartment so I can move, if anyone knows of something that might be available. I would love to re-locate to the Branchburg area, since that is where I work. I would appreciate any advice anyone might have, especially concerning tenants rights, and legalities. I am extremely appalled by this landlords blatant lack of compassion or understanding. What do you think?
