Well, its official - my heart has been stolen. Its actually been stolen many times in the past two weeks, but this one is extra special. I met Ashie (or Archie for the more western version) on my first day in Kathmandu. You know that one kid at school, with no friends and who is always being picked on? Thats Ashie. Hes been beaten so many times by a Nepali Police stick, his only defense and protection is to bite, which in turn gets him beaten again. Its a vicious cycle, with seemingly no end. Hes unpredictable and doesnt like men. What he is not however, is unloveable or untrainable. He is the sweetest dog who has soaked up every ounce of love Ive been able to give him through his cage. Hell rest his head against me, and if I stop, hell paw through the bars at me to continue. I walked by him yesterday to love on Oscar a few cages down, and he whined and barked until I came back to him. If my home was the right environment for him, he would be leaving with me back to the States tomorrow. Sadly though, it is not. Ashie needs a home with someone, a female, with the ability to train, an understanding of dog behavior, compassion, a large contained outdoor area, and probably no other pets or children. I know that person is out there somewhere, so if that person is you, please contact me, or contact [email protected]. If that person is not you, please share this post far and wide. They do international adoptions for the right home. Ashie is currently at the SDC Center being treated for his latest wound, but will be released back to the streets in a few days. Hes up to date on his vaccinations, and I will pay to have him sterilized before adoption. It is going to kill me to say goodbye to him today, I already have tears in my eyes as I think about it. He reminds me so much of my Handsome (Ollie), just a little younger, and also a younger version of my Roni.
