Well, little Toby is doing superbly well! He now goes completely off lead in areas he knows (this was a new location today so back on the long line to start with) and his retrieve when the toy is thrown is fantastic so we thought wed change the exercise and work on placing the toy, walking away and then cueing him to find it. We started by just rewarding him for not moving as we lowered the ball to the ground a couple of feet in front of him (took a few goes, he was very excited!), then built up to stepping away from the toy after it was on the ground before releasing him and then finally to doing this at a distance of a couple of metres. Check this last video - so proud of him!!! Weve also been working on helping his owner not squeak the second ball to get him back and instead just carrying on her walk so he catches up and brings the toy back automatically :-) P.s. Bug was supervising.... aka being a static distraction in her spotty fleece!
