Well that bordering crossing didnt go to plan, check this out.... 2.30am 4 hour taxi to the Venzuelan/Colombian border, arrived around 7am. On the way we illegally entered Colombia, with no visa stamp out of Venezuela and no visa stamp into Colombia. The plan being that we loop around on a faster route to the real border where I sort out my visas there. All well and good until.... Riots at the border. Police shooting tear gas and people throwing grenades on the border, we had to run to the car. Border obviously closed (to be sure I had a crack at crossing only for the crowd to start chanting gringo, no passo or something like that! I was now illegally in Colombia, where I actually wanted to be. But I hadnt officially left Venezuela, and with the border on lock down I cant go back to Venezuela nor go forward to Colombia. Completely screwed in no mans land!! Anyways, 8 hours later and with Brendan the superstar from Jakera Adventure Venezuela on the case, we made it across. Special thanks to the taxi lady and her twins who signed up for a 4 hour easy taxi ride and ended up 13 hours later stood with me, having dodged tear gas and drove around the world for a shortcut. So much for taking it easy! Just booked my 16 hour bus to Bogota, God I love traveling! #realtravel #venezuela #colombia P.S country number 120!!!
