erinsimmonsfitness.me/2014/04/17/why-i-dont-do-crossfit/ Ive had a few people talk to me about the article Why I dont do CrossFit and felt that I would offer my take after reading it. Obviously my opinions are biased but Ill do my best to stay subjective. The author mentions that CrossFit is dangerous and CrossFit coaches dont put an emphasis on proper form. The author mentions being handed a heavy kettlebell and told to do kipping pull ups on day 1 and do things as fast as possible. There is such a thing as bad coaching, one thing Ive learned as a coach is the eyeball method doesnt tell you Sh!t about how fit a person is, meaning that just because someone looks fit doesnt mean they are. She easily could have taken a lighter kettlebell, she could have done a scaled version of pull ups, she could and should have LISTENED TO HER BODY! Progress comes fast here, whether your a deconditioned athlete or someone with a strong athletic background, I dont do anything special to expedite results and I typically have all first timers do the same WOD on their first day, all body weight movements I should mention. She mentions her master and doctorate level athletic trainers never once had her do Olympic lifting, she mentions rep count and that its never okay to do sets of 30. Our workouts are constantly varied, meaning reps, movements, weight, distance traveled, can all be played with and altered. Would I program a 300lb Snatch is a WOD? Obviously Not. It is true that CrossFit made me a level 1 trainer after taking a 2 day course, its also true that they have given me instruction on kettlebells from the guy who literally wrote the book on Kettlebells, its also true that I worked with a Olympic level athlete on my gymnastics, that Ive worked with a Olympic coach on my Olympic lifting, not to teach Olympians, but to teach people who have never done an Olympic lift before. Its also true that Ive logged over a 1000 hours of coaching, working with hundreds of different people with different abilities. She mentions that no professional sport encourages CrossFit for their athletes... DUH their athletes have contracts for millions of dollars, they also dont let them ride motorcycles. Finally she mentions that initially after you do CrossFit you dont get any gains... Id be happy to share my workout data after a year and a half of training and while Im not a college level athlete Im still making gains and PRs. Finally she mentions that every CrossFit gym is the same, I assure you she has never been to every CrossFit gym, if she has she missed mine. Sorry this is so long folks!
