Well, the prodigals have returned. Miss Daisy and Rosie decided to - TopicsExpress

Well, the prodigals have returned. Miss Daisy and Rosie decided to explore the neighborhood and stopped for an afternoon snack at the neighbors. Daisy gives all appearance of being the boss cow but Rosie actually calls the shots. Daisy was ready to come home with me as soon as she laid eyes on me...Rosie, not so much. Daisy would follow me, Rosie would ignore me. So, we tried the way I learned growing up, where I got behind and directed them with hand signals while keeping the last one motivated to move forward. Again, Daisy is easily directed and wed make great progress until Rosie decided to go back to START. I finally gave up treating them like cooperative, intelligent creatures and came home and got a bucket of feed. I immediately had Daisys heart...it rests very close to one of her stomachs. The play of wills was still between Rosie and Janie. The two bovines were standing side-by-side in the hayfield about 30 feet from the road. I stood by the Jeep, shaking the bucket of grain and talking wooingly to Daisy. Come on, girl! Lets head home and have supper! All you have to do is come on over here and well head straight down the road. Cmon! You know you want to! And Daisy took one...two...three tentative steps toward me! Rosie let out a low mooooo and Daisy stepped back beside her in confusion. I stared into my opponents eyes and told her firmly that I was in control and I was NOT going to come to her...if she wanted any feed she was going to have to come to me and follow me home. Daisy nervously head butted Rosie, as if to say, I think shes serious! Lets go or we wont get anything to eat but this grass! She took a few resolute steps toward me and was stopped by that warning, MOOO once again. I waited just a few seconds, for Rosie to completely soak in that she had stopped Daisy, turned toward the car and said, Ok, girls. You win. Im taking the feed and going home. Well see you later. As I shut the door and inched the car forward, Daisy lifted her head and let go a high-pitched cry...Rosie threw her tail in the air and came running toward me. It was somewhat of a struggle to keep ahead of them on the way home but I managed. They are grazing peacefully on their own lush pasture now. I hope they learned that visiting is fun but there is no place like home, here at Peaceful Place! May you all be blessed to learn that the place you love is blessed with the Peace that passes all understanding!
