Well this is interesting... Ever been curious how we as a planet have a magnetic field? Well apparently, the inner core of our planet is solid iron, spinning fast in an easterly direction while the molten outer core spins more slowly in a westerly direction. This friction between the 2 stirs up enough static electricity to form our magnetic field and, one would think, probably regulates our rotation for our days and nights.
