Well, this post is a long time coming. I wrote something a few months ago called Dear single men, its time to man up. The post was meant to be a little kick in the butt to the fellas, especially the single ones, encouraging them to shape up, get it together, and a number of other cliched phrases. Ever since then, Ive found myself fielding a constant barrage of emails from women who sometimes agree with me a little too forcefully. I found that my gentle (by my standards) admonition of men had, in the minds of some women, served to validate their belief that all of their relationship problems are the fault of men. They themselves bear no responsibility for any of it at all, ever, under any circumstance. The most theyre willing to admit is that its their fault for choosing jerks all the time, but they certainly wont stop to consider that, frankly, maybe theyre jerks, too. Ive wanted to explore this idea but I was always a bit reluctant because I could already anticipate the headache of being screamed at by a million aggrieved man-haters. But then I got this email from a woman named Rebecca, and I just couldnt help myself. So here it is. Im sure youll find it to be completely misogynistic and offensive.
