Well were back in Darwin after being in Barunga for over a week. We had such a special time, especially when the festival started and thousands of people arrived. On both Saturday and Sunday night we played stripped back sets in the APRA acoustic tent. Usually when we do this its just the two of us but this time two of James friends/mentors Michael Hohnen and Marine Boy joined us on Double Bass and Keys. On Saturday night after the 1st song Michael says to James you cool if Gurrumul jams on some bongos with us? - James laughed and said “Of course!”. Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu has some serious groove! Last night we had the awesome Allen Murphy on the kit with us too (possibly time to get a live band together). Incredible amounts of talent in the NT. Don’t sleep on the music coming from this part of Australia. Big love to Skinnyfish for having us, amazing to see Saltwater Band play together again lead by one of our favourite singers Manuel Dhurrkay. Too many other acts and people to mention but if youve ever thought about experiencing the NT and havent been to BARUNGA FESTIVAL youve got a year to get it together for the big 30th anniversary in 2015.
