Well what can we say… a great weekend was had by all Songsters at Falmouth Corps! We were up and en-route to Falmouth at 07:30. With two stops on our journey to Falmouth, we arrived at around 13:30, where we were greeted by Chris Green, his helpers and much needed refreshments. Our first engagement for the weekend was a march of witness to The Moor, which commenced at 14:30. Once at The Moor, the Songsters led an open-air meeting to the people who gathered around and also to people looking around the market that was taking place. The songs that were sung in the open-air were: March On The Lord is My Shepherd Would You Know Why I Love Jesus Upon this Rock The Message of ‘Jesus’ Love for You and for Me’ was portrayed to the people of Falmouth and reassuring them that indeed Jesus’ Love is there for them to grab hold of. After the Songsters concluded the open-air, we formed back into march formation, to march back to the Corps. Once back at the corps there was a chance to relax, whilst the finishing touches to the buffet tea were prepared. This included a few of the songsters walking down to the town to pick up Cornish Pasties!! After a rendition of ‘All good gifts around us’ the Songsters took great delight in consuming the amazing spread of food, including the much anticipated Pasties!! After the lovely tea, the Songsters were again getting changed at the corps into uniform ready for our evening concert at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Once all Songsters were changed and ready, the coach was packed and we were en-route to the church. The coach driver took us on a little scenic drive on our way to the church, passing the gorgeous beach and clear waters – with some songsters being a little envious of the people swimming in the sea!! Once we had arrived at the church, the coach was once again unloaded and the set-up routine was in order! After setting up and finding our seats, we sang through a couple of songs for a sound check. The concert started at 19:00, so after the sound check this gave us a little time to sit and share fellowship together. The Songsters presented a concert on the theme of ‘He is My Light…’ the following songs were sung: Alpha & Omega Shine on Us A Quiet Place Everywhere You Are the Light We Are Not Alone Bow the Knee Anthem – Male Voices There’s Never Been a Mountain Interval Revival How Can I Keep From Singing Your Name? Make My Life an Alleluia In Christ Alone Lift Up the Cross God of My Praise Benediction – May It Be Following the conclusion of the meeting, the Songsters all went our separate ways to our respective billets for the evening. After much needed rest and refreshments, a good night’s sleep was in order after a long but great day together! On Sunday Morning the meeting commenced at 10:30 – moving on with our journey through the weekend, the meeting’s theme was ‘He is My Strength…’. The songsters again provided music for the meeting: This Is My Desire My Strength Alone Breathe His Strength is Perfect With Wings as Eagles Songster’s Taffy Rusere, Julie Forsyth & George Lawrence gave their testimony of three themes, ‘He was my Strength’, ‘He is My Strength’ & ‘He will be My Strength’. Songster Jonathan Searle lead the Kidzone in the meeting, using the children and some of the male songsters to depict how helping the younger members of our corps is a vital part in our lives, this was shown in the way of a tug of war. In the meeting, Songster Fiona Mercer also presented a solo, ‘In the Name of the Lord’. After a rousing rendition of ‘I’ll go in the Strength of the Lord’ from the congregation. Falmouth Songsters joined Boscombe Songsters to sing the benediction, Doxology, this was under the Leadership of Falmouth Songster Leader Chris Green. It was a very special moment for all! Following the Morning Meeting, lunch was provided by the corps, which was superb! Again a tight schedule was in order for the songsters. Once the Songsters were changed and the coach was packed once again, we headed to the Princess Pavilion for a 14:30 open-air concert. The setting was lovely – with seating all around a grassed area, with the bandstand prominent in the middle. As we were getting ready, many people came around and were waiting in anticipation as to who these people in uniform were. Once we were set-up within minutes they knew that we were from The Salvation Army! In the gorgeous sunshine and scorching heat, the songsters were on form again, with the theme of the afternoon moving onto ‘He is My Song…’, the Songsters sang: All Creation Sings Sing for Joy The Lord is My Shepherd Praise His Holy Name What a Friend we have in Jesus – Small Group God of My Praise Know My Heart You Are Mine Again, Songster’s Alison Nock, Nicola Mercer, Kevin Whittingham & Songster Secretary David Gregory shared there testimonies around ‘He is My Song…’. Songster Niall Marshallsay shared the message with the crowds that had gathered. Coming to the end of our afternoon programme, the Falmouth Songsters joined Boscombe Songsters to sing ‘The Awakeners’, once again under the leadership of Falmouth Songster Leader Chris Green. After this a final benediction was prayed by Major Carelle Begley, leading onto the massed songsters singing ‘Total Praise’. As the final ‘Amen!’ was sung in Total Praise, this would be the Songster’s final involvement for the weekend. After this, the Songsters changed in travel uniforms ready to head home, and some taking the chance to get much needed drinks and even ice-creams after a scorching afternoon in Falmouth. This leads us on to say thank you to the Falmouth Corps for everything that you did for our weekend with you! We will continue to pray for your ministry and for the people of Falmouth and that the Corps grows in strength! Thank you again!
