Went out to DIS on Sunday with the old man and did a lap around in my Mustang Convertible. Started off slow in a long line of cars on the apron, We had been given a list of rules on spacing, speed, to stay on the apron except for right at the finish line for a photo op. So we did not get up on the high banks in the turns only the 18 degree bank at the finish line. We were told that Daytonas finest would be on the track and if we did not follow the rules, we would be escorted off. It was really for our safety. So this idiot 2 cars ahead of us starts off trying to get up on the high banks of the turns, he was warned by one m/c policeman to move over. Then he lagged back , he was told to catch up. then when he was coming out of turn 4, he popped his clutch and spun his tires, blowing a little smoke. He got pulled out of line and given a new orfice. He was escorted out. This lap is something that DIS really does not have to let us do. We dont pay for it and idiots like this can ruin it for all of us. That aside, had a blast and even on the 18 degree bank it was really strange how much I had to steer into the wall just to keep going straight. Les kept telling me to get closer to the wall---not likely, dear! I never got out of 2nd gear but definitely enjoyed the drive. Les took a lot of photos but it is hard to really see the banks in those turns. Had a great day with the old man!!
