Went to out today and found an injured squirrel under my car. He was a Red Douglas, native to BC. Thought he was dead & went to get the shovel to move him, he was still alive! Very not well though. Got the welding gloves and did some checks on him, injury to the chin but nothing that would seem to be causing him to be sick. I moved him off to the grass and watched him for a few minutes, he was having the odd convulsion and I was sure he was going to die. If it can be helped, nothing and no one should die alone (I told Doug that). I called the lovely people at Elizabeths Wildlife and within minutes we were en-route. Sadly, the little guy died on the way, but the volunteer and I were able to look at him a bit better. Tongue and mucus membranes were oddly coloured. We both think it was probably poisoning of some kind. I kept my promise though, he did not die alone. :(
