Went to the US Courthouse this morning. Security is tight, so I - TopicsExpress

Went to the US Courthouse this morning. Security is tight, so I packed light. At the kiosk, I put my cell phone, pen, and car keys in the little dog dish they use, and walked through. Got red-lighted and returned. Told to remove my hat, my boots, and my wallet. Put my wallet and IDS in my hat, and they screened that, as my boots got though somehow to the other side. Was a bit dizzy after bending over to remove boots, and hit the little screener machine on my way through the second time. Had to re-screen again, and was told to not touch the machine. so I staggered through, and they handed me my hat, ID, and wallet, and sat down immediately to put on the boots this time. got up and headed to the bathroom because I was not feeling kosher due to the balance problem. Felt better, and returned to the kiosk to tell them I needed to use the stairway to get to the third floor, and that started the usual BS about it being a secured area now, but I explained the situation and then one US Marshall agreed to walk up with me. Three flights later, we arrive and he tells me to call him when Im through, to go back down. So I went to plug his number in my phone, and discover I dont have my phone, or my keys, or my pen...basically everything I dumped into the first screening dog food dish. Try not to panic, I said to myself. I tried to get them to call the security kiosk, and it turns out they dont know the number. This security aint to reassuring at this point. They finally found someone, and they said, no, my stuff isnt there. Its getting close to panic time now, but I inch my way back downstairs, and we search again, but to no avail. Its all gone. Now Im getting panicky, because they dont seem the slightest bit concerned or sympathetic. Im miles from home, my truck is in a metered space, and I have no keys or phone to call anyone. I asked them about the video cameras, hoping they might reveal who took my stuff. They dismissed the idea, which really started to aggravate me, and instead they directed me to a little office with three other badge wearing suits were sitting, one of which said hed call me if anything turned up. At this point, one of them reluctantly agreed to call my cell and see if anyone answered, or if we could hear it. 2 calls, no answer. So I started writing my information to leave them, when I was motioned to return to the kiosk. Some old Geezer,(journeyman geezer), had taken all my stuff, and said he didnt realize it until the phone rang and he realized he had two phones. He said he was 72, and on two or three different pain meds, and doesnt think clearly. He seemed to be a nice guy, but gawd..what a fiasco. This security screening is less than...well, secure. And they aint all that handy. I dont know what the deal was about not wanting to even look at the video, but Im fearful that it doesnt work at all, and its just for show......like the men in suits who dont like climbing stairs.
