Were Maria Millers expenses claims as illegal as Dennis MacShanes or Elliot Morleys? If so, then the precedents been set - the police must prosecute. Moreover, if the police are investigating her expenses, then Maria Miller (like Andrew Mitchell) should step down for the duration of the investigation - no ifs, no buts, no maybes. Camerons loyalty to his ministers is laudable, but his judgement has yet again been found to be flawed. Sadly, this will have the result of turning many more people off politics. Ironically, that plays right into the hands of the Tory party, who, with the help of the media (and closet Tory Russell Brand) have been doing their utmost to deter ordinary working people from voting since 1997. Labour always does well in elections with high turnouts, hence the Tory strategy. Its not quantum physics, but it is cynical, manipulative and as nasty as ever.
