Were school dances well attended in your era? In the 60s they were still a big deal. ACVI would have a semi-formal Christmas dance and a June formal that was only for those in their graduating year unless you were dating a senior. The other dances were either after-school sock-hops or monthly evening affairs to recorded music with a dj. We budgeted about $25 for the regular dances and made a bit of money on the side selling pop and chips in the cafeteria which went towards the decorating costs for the formal. It cost us $7 to hire an off-duty police officer to patrol the dances and we had to sign-in guests from Henry if we were dating outside our school! I think they used to worry that there might be some Henry/Anderson rivalries that might get out of hand and admin wanted to be able to track down any Henry miscreants so that their principal could deal with them.
