Weve been getting an increased amount of stick the last few days on social media over our pigs at The Urban Croft an their planned slaughter. Emotive issues aside, is it not positive for us to produce meat closer to our customers, using waste food from our shop in an absolutely transparent way which is as kind and sustainable as possible? Heres an interesting article that looks at the idea of meat as a treat to save for feasts. In it Jasmijn de Boo (Vegan Society CEO) says: I personally dont believe feasts are necessary as we dont need animal protein, but if people want to do that then it is definitely a step in the right direction” Surely then is what we are doing (promoting eating less but better meat and making it transparent) also a step in the right direction?
