Weve been watching this absolutely amazing Sci-Fi TV series called The Starlost which was videotaped back in 1973. As far as Canadian Sci-Fi goes, it is absolutely amazing. Yeah, the special effects are cheesy, the sets are made out of cardboard and the actors are chewing on the scenery, but the stories are awesome and thats what counts. Harlan Ellison thought up the concept but disassociated himself from the show when the TV executives started to meddle with it. It even tried to tout a new type of technology called Magicam that turned out to be unreliable, resulting in lots of low-budget chroma key shots instead. Its a shame because this series had lots of potential and some of the big sci-fi greats could have been brought in to write episodes, but it didnt turn out that way. Even so, The Starlost is uniquely Canadian and deserves to be remade with modern CG, modern actors and revised plotlines which focus on the story and characters. One thing that has really grown on me is the bearded round-glasses wearing computer who says, May I... help you? .. I hope they keep that.
