We’re coming to the #icebucketchallenge a bit late, but there’s no way we’d disappoint Bill Myers! We are actually donating both to ALS (in honor of Father Raymond Fitzgerald, S.J.) and another worthy cause that is close to my heart-Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (in honor of Gabe Griffin). Like ALS, Duchenne is a degenerative muscle disease. DMD strikes 1 in 3600 baby boys and often claims their lives by the age of 25. I’ve had the opportunity to get to know Gabe, who has Duchenne, and his family, the Griffins, over the past year. I strongly encourage you to check out hopeforgabe.org to learn more about Gabe’s fight and how you can take part in the battle against Duchenne. I’m reaching out to the staff at GradePower Learning Birmingham: Way beyond tutoring, as well as to James Spann and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson to do what they can to raise awareness and to end Duchenne!
