We’re delighted to announce the first CVF Club screening of 2015 - Attacking Zhanggao Village by director Wang Haian. The free screening will take place Thursday 29th January at 630pm in FS2 (Film Studies 2) on the King’s Strand Campus. Following on from our highly successful Wu Wenguang series last year, Attacking Zhanggao Village 进攻张高村 (2012) is another film from the Folk Memory Project, which sees director Wang Haian 王海安 returning to his village to interview his family and elders about the Great Famine of 1960. Although he plans to help erect a memorial headstone to commemorate those who died, his efforts are not met with the reaction he expects. A fascinating look at memory and the involvement of everyday people in politics, Attacking Zhanggao Village is a challenging and thought provoking documentary, and we look forward to seeing you all there next week, when we’ll also be making some exciting announcements about our plans for 2015.
