What Obama Didn’t Say About Muslims mychal-massie/premium/what-obama-didnt-say-about-muslims/ By Mychal Massie on August 8, 2014in Daily Rant, Foreign Policy 0 On July 27, 2014, Obama and wife issued the following statement: As Muslims throughout the United States and around the world celebrate Eid-al-Fitr, Michelle and I extend our warmest wishes to them and their families. This last month has been a time of fasting, reflection, spiritual renewal, and service to the less fortunate. While Eid marks the completion of Ramadan, it also celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity and reinforces the obligations that people of all faiths have to each other, especially those impacted by poverty, conflict, and disease. In the United States, Eid also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy. That is why we stand with people of all faiths, here at home and around the world, to protect and advance their rights to prosper, and we welcome their commitment to giving back to their communities. On behalf of the Administration, we wish Muslims in the United States and around the world a blessed and joyous celebration. Eid Mubarak. How sweet of the Obamas to recognize Muslims in America at the end of their holy days. But, if my memory serves me correctly, and I am assured it does, I do not recall the Obamas recognizing Jews or Christians in America at the conclusion of our sacred holy days. That said, in their rush to praise Muslims, it would have been nice if they hadn’t omitted the following facts. There are about 400 recognized terrorist groups in the world. Over 90 percent of these are Islamist groups. Over 90 percent of the current world fighting involves Islamist terror movements. The vast majority of world terrorism is religiously motivated by Islam. This involves terrorist acts in 26 countries worldwide. These people cannot be reasoned with. Their hatred is an anathema to all rational consideration. They have but one goal: to subdue the world under the rule of Islam. Beheadings, suicide bombings and ritual mutilation are not just strategies of war but time-honored traditions that are theologically sanctioned. To relegate these acts to mere terrorist tactics is not only strategically unwise but diminishes the true nature of the threat. Similarly, to designate enemies as religious fanatics, Islamic extremists, insurgents or radical militants who have corrupted the peaceful religion of Islam is a politically correct fallacy that is undermining every aspect of the war on terrorism and resulting in the death of American [and coalition] soldiers. [The] apparently inexplicable violent acts committed … [are] the sacred blood rituals of Mujahideen warriors. … They are theologically prescribed and communally sanctioned. … To analyze the violence from a Western perspective, sugarcoating by the media of violent aspects of the Islamic religion, and failing to recognize that we are in the midst of a century-old holy war, will only serve to perpetrate a never-ending cycle of reciprocal violence. As the Obamas were busy heaping praise on Muslims they neglected to include the following historical acts of appreciation perpetrated by Muslims against Americans. Maybe these acts were the Muslim way of saying thank you to America for opening our doors to them. The following is a short list to be sure, but it is no less worthy of our being reminded of same: In 1993, Muslims bombed the World Trade Center leaving six Americans dead and 1,000 injured. In 1995, Muslims killed five U.S. military personnel in a Saudi Arabia bombing. In 1996, Muslims bombed King Aziz Air Force Base in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, leaving 23 Americans dead and 300 injured. In the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, Muslims left 19 dead and 500 injured. In 1998, Muslims killed 224 and left 4,000 injured in the bombings of the U.S. embassies in Africa. And then there was the bombing of the USS Cole, which left 17 dead and 39 injured U.S. sailors. I find it terribly disappointing that American leaders bend over backwards to praise Muslims as kind, pastoral, folks who are just like us. The truth is they are neither and it is long past time we stop pretending that they are.
