What Patriotism Means to Me Patriotism. Merriam-Webster’s - TopicsExpress

What Patriotism Means to Me Patriotism. Merriam-Webster’s on-line dictionary describes it as “love for or devotion to one’s country”. This is a true statement, however, it means so much more than this to me. When I merely hear the word I see images of dedicated armed forces relentlessly fighting for our country. I see our beautiful flag flying outside of every school and business. I remember that I can achieve anything that I am willing to work for. I am fortunate to have been born in the United States which automatically grants me certain rights that can never be taken away. As Americans, we are free to be openly religious in any way we please. With this in mind, we need to remember our country’s motto “In God We Trust”. We always need to have trust in God as well as our country. We also have the freedom to say and write what we want. Children can be whatever they would like when they grow older as long as they are willing to try. Patriotism is having a strong desire to triumph over true enemies and not getting caught up in pointless feuds. Even more so, we are given the power to help control the fate of America. We have the freedom to vote, to keep our country in worthy hands. Just because we can keep our country on the right track doesn’t mean that it will be. We have to want to. This is a big part of patriotism. We have to show love to our country to keep it free, to keep it as one nation indivisible. We have to want liberty and justice for all. I am proud to be an American. I am proud of my country and everything it stands for. We all need to pass on how important strong patriotism is to future generations. We need to make sure that our children are just as proud of their country as we are. Jared Motley Age 13 VFW Post 6750, Rantoul, IL Patriot’s Pen essay writing contest winner.
