What a beautiful week this has been… I absolutely love the summer months in SW Florida and am extremely excited about the skills development I’m seeing on the sand! Between the NVL/Rox Beach Series (our affiliate), Dig the Beach, and FBVT; tournaments are in full swing and there is at least one around the state every weekend… Do you plan on competing in any of them? You’ll have to forgive me as it’s been a while since I produced a great quote or two in my weekly emails so here it goes… At the request of one of our player’s parents, I have dug up a few quotes on how beach training helps indoor players in their all-around game. In truth, there are so many quotes I could list from top pros and coaches that it would be like reading a book if I listed them all… “The beach game taught me great lessons about how to elevate the play of my teammate, or teammates, and how to anticipate and expect the ball so much more than the indoor game ever could. It taught me — even forced me — to be a much better all-around player.” -- Karch Kiraly: Olympic Gold Medalist 1984, 1988 and 1996 / Current USA Women’s National Team Coach “It’s easier to take your outdoor skills into the gym than to bring your indoor skills outside. Simple reason; beach forces you to have all of the skills. Learning those skills can only help improve a player’s indoor performance.” -- Karch Kiraly: Olympic Gold Medalist 1984, 1988 and 1996 / Current USA Women’s National Team Coach “I cannot stress enough how strongly I feel about young indoor players getting their feet in the sand and playing beach volleyball. I truly wish that I had played when I was younger because I know, without a doubt in my mind, that it would have made me a better overall indoor player. It will improve your overall skills, your strength and stamina, and it will teach you the importance of communication and being a good team player. It’s a great workout, but most importantly it’s a lot of fun.” --Kerri Walsh: Three time Olympic Gold medalist / World Champion So there you have it...
