What a day I had yesterday. 80 year old lady shows up to relive her youth. She was a little odd and I could tell there was a little something wrong. After assessing her I decided to make it easy I would just lead her on the small pony , I mean horse, Badger. I mounted 2 very patient and lovely guests and then Ole Jan and off we went with her in tow. She wanted to lope the horses. THat of course was until we got to the first drop off where she said, Oh my God I didnt know it was like this. SO I just kept trucking along. About an hour in she starts to get red and I know its time to kai - yai to the Rancho. Before we even got down the last hill I hear from client Lisa Barry, Shes goin down! I step off ole Woody, right in to a stag horn cholla, let go of him and his reins and grab Miss Jan and put her back up to center. Did I mention the Adobe Rattler we had just passed. I didnt tell Jan as I knew she would fall right on it. Kept her up and Doctor Barry hopped of his horse into the Cholla and he preceded to keep her up while I control Badger... Tons of fun I tell you. Half her face is beet red and I know she is havin a stoke...Not a heat stroke...A real stroke. I just zip right on down the hill.. Patting ole Woody everytime we caught up and off he went to the RAnch. When we get there her cab had just arrived and right after I wetted her down with the hose, we lifted her in and said, She is not Okay! Get her right to the ER. Boom she is gone. I was hot overheated underwatered and full of cactus as was Dr. Barry. I was sure I was quitting forever at that very moment. I did every thing as well as possible the ending was good but Stress...I dont need that. After a lovely Tonto Lunch with Dr. and Mrs. Barry with lots of laughs and joy reliving all the fun times we had just experienced. I started to listen to my messages for the day. The one call that got me was my old friend and client David Citi calling to tell me the story of his Granddaughter returning from her magical first ride the day before. Her exact words to her Grandfather were: GRANDFATHER, TODAY WAS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!, I WANT TO RIDE SOME MORE PLEASE? I guess I wont quit.
