What a day, I shoveled the end of my driveway TWICE today so far, - TopicsExpress

What a day, I shoveled the end of my driveway TWICE today so far, once this AM and then again around 10pm after the plows had finished. Figured I should stay ahead of it as in the AM it will be all piled up again but I hope by doing this it will not be as bad. With my bad back and COPD it takes me quite awhile to do it. However though it IS done twice so far and maybe it will slowly help my lungs and strengthening if I can do it in small portions. I expect to have to do this again tomorrow and Friday as well. Almost had a MAJOR accident as well, came off exit 2 in Fair Haven going only 10 mph half way down the exit and hit black ice....the car just would not stop, I quickly looked over to my left to see if any traffic was oncoming in that lane and there was not thankfully or id had to have driven the car off the side of the embankment rather than get hit on my drivers side door.... but there was a 18 wheeler coming on the opposite lane about to turn onto the HW, he saw I could not stop... I downshifted to 3rd 2nd then 1st but still not stopping then put it into park at around 5mph or so... i JUST missed the driver side door of the Rig by roughly 3 inches!!! My point is black ice is nothing anyone can control, though i kept my wits and cool under pressure it was more luck than skill that kept me from an accident. We were all only going around 40-45 mph on the HW too vs. 65. IF you do not have to be out on the roads this evening or tomorrow until the storm has passed DRIVE CAREFULLY PLEASE! Even a skilled experienced driver could not have done much more than I did. I like to think my Brother Derran and my Dad were watching over me today. One mistake on my end and I could have been creamed or worse, dead! I do miss my 4x4 but even in black ice that would not have made any difference... i was lucky when many others have not been today... thank you Derran & Dad for watching over me. I do not think my family could endure the loss of another close family member so soon after losing my other Brother a month ago in Maine. Stay SAFE and WARM everyone and only drive if you HAVE too, if not walk or stay home. I am wiped out after shoveling twice with no help of course, have a 20 year old daughter of my GF complaining her back hurts, always an excuse not to help... well I would trade back pain ANY day with her =] Good night all.
