What a great shortlist unveiled by Llenyddiaeth Cymru / Literature Wales for Wales Book of the Year 2014. A lot of the authors have associations with the Dylan Thomas Prize and 5 Cwmdonkin Drive! Thelma Wheatley lives in Canada and was born in Swansea. She was in Swansea last September for a Glanmor Grammar School Old Girls Reunion. She stayed at Number 5 and was taught by Emlyn Davies (who owned No.5 after the Thomas family) and also gave her music lessons in the house. Jemma King with this book was shortlisted for the DT Prize last year and stayed at the birthplaces sister business Clyne Farm Centre as part of the Authors Residence Week. The owner of Dylans Birthplace, Geoff Haden is a founder board member of the Dylan Thomas Prize. Since then, Clyne Farm has been the official Authors Residence with them living together for a week. When Geoff acquired the birthplace it then became the centre for press and media days related to the prize. The prize has an incredible record of spotting emerging talent. Other winners Nam Le, Lucy Caldwell, Maggie Shipstead, Elyse Fenton and Claire Vaye Watkins are now major writers. Prize shortlisted Eleanor Catton won the Booker Prize and Joe Dunthorne was long listed for Submarine among other authors. #DylanThomas #Dylans #5Cwmdonkin #Swansea #VisitSwanseaBay
