What are you training for? I frequently think and reflect on - TopicsExpress

What are you training for? I frequently think and reflect on the happenings at SMCF every day. I ask myself, “What are the athletes training for?” For most, training is a lifestyle choice; a way to look and feel better, while others are supplementing their training for a specific sport or activity. No answer is better than another because we all have different goals. Here are a few tips to assist you in obtaining your goal(s), most of which I’ve learned the hard way: 1. Be consistent 2. Train with purpose and intensity 3. Be smart in your training. If you’re dinged up, hurt or injured say something! And take care of yourself. Unless today’s workout means a large financial pay day or the saving of orphans, skip, modify, and do whatever is necessary to take care of you. The white board gets erased every night. This is not in opposition to #1. In any sport and in life there may be injuries. Deal with them smartly and you will move past them more quickly than if you decide to do things in your own super-squirrel way. I repeat, this is not in opposition to #1. 4. Fix/ address your goats and leave your ego someplace else. For me, the most impressive things I have seen lately are not necessarily PRs, but athletes stepping back, identifying problems and working on them with focus and intensity. 5. Live a life of wellness. Working out at the gym is a small part of meeting your goals, approximately 1/24 of your day. One hour or so of working out will not correct 23 hours of living like its Spring Break 1990 in Panama City. 6. Every day is not a rock star kinda day (See #1 and #3) 7. Less is more. Most of the time you’ll be better off resting, spending time with your family, doing something else or heaven forbid sleeping, than getting in your 10th workout in 5 days. Again, What are you training for?!? 8. Stop stressing out and feeling guilty about food. So you had moon pies, dipped in chocolate, in between orders of all you can eat wings. Move on. Make a better decision next time (see #1). 9.Respect yourself- enough said (I hope) 10. Write your goal(s) down and let everyone know what’s up so we can support you!! - L
