What do we do to beat the heat? Go to the swimming pool, lake - TopicsExpress

What do we do to beat the heat? Go to the swimming pool, lake or even the ocean if you are lucky to live close enough. Swimming with your contacts on can be problematic for the following reasons: Fresh water and water in swimming pools can cause soft lenses to tighten on your eyes, causing significant discomfort. Getting water in your eyes when swimming also rinses away the natural tears that lubricate your eyes and can worsen existing eye conditions such as chronic dry eyes. Most importantly, this water is dirty! There is a bacteria called Acanthamoeba that can cause really NASTY, sight threatening eye infections. I have seen a few cases in my office over the years. They are horribly painful and very hard to treat. Here is a link to read about this in more detail. allaboutvision/contacts/faq/swim-in-cls.htm
