What does it mean to discern the Body and Blood of the Lord in the - TopicsExpress

What does it mean to discern the Body and Blood of the Lord in the Sacrament of Holy Communion? When we come to the Table are we so distracted by the problems of this life -- by our own sins or the sins of others -- that we fail to recognize the Real Presence of Jesus? Or, in our quest for understanding, do we shy away from the idea that Jesus offers himself to us through these simple means of bread and wine? When we approach the table, where is our faith? Is it focused on ourselves and our own understanding, or is it focused upon Jesus? Is our attention riveted upon our sins, or are we depending upon Jesus? Sadly, some people stay away from the Table out of fear -- fear of not being worthy to partake. The truth is that we are not worthy to partake of the sacrament; I am not worthy to preside, and we are not worthy to receive. The good news is that we are made worthy by the Blood of the Lamb when we come and when we eat and drink with faith. Do not stay away out of fear or frustration; do not stay away out of a disdain for things mystical; rather, discern our Lords Real Presence, partake of the sacrament, and allow the amazing grace of Jesus to transform you.
