What does the Jew yearn for ? What is the focal point of ones existence ? How does one understand what it is that H-shem wants ? I have often shared that one who davens (prays) is talking to G-d is talking to H-shem and one who learns Torah is allowing H-shem to talk to him. What is amazing about this equation is that the human is very much involved in the process. Imagine if a person stood in front of the radio thinking that they really wanted to know what the weather was like so they would know how to dress the kids for school. Sitting in front of them was this amazing contraption that had buttons or knobs on it and a tail that was , for some reason, plugged into these two holes in the wall. Now imagine you walked in on this person and heard him bemoaning the fact that he had no idea about the coming weather. What would you do? My guess is that you may encourage them to turn on the radio to the weather station. Of course, they may laugh at you because, after all, this box in front of you is so small and there couldnt possibly be anybody in it who knows the forecast. You would patiently explain how the radio works ; how it was built with precision by those far wiser than you and is only considered authentic in what you hear if it is connected to the source..not those two holes you see the tail-like thing plugged into but connected even more to the wiring in the walls, to the wires outside all the way back to the electrical plant.. Standing in front of the radio bemoaning our lack of weather knowledge will not help us. We must be willing to turn on the radio and connect to the weatherman who is out of sight and, possibly out of mind when we dont care about the weather. If the weather is not to our liking we dont berate the weatherman. We assume the weather is part of nature and we need to adapt. Even when the weatherman in wrong , we still tune in to hear what he has to say because despite being wrong often , we naturally want to be connected to one with perceived more wisdom than we have. That is for a mere weatherman. Our holy Torah is the very Blueprint with which the Source of all creation sprung forth. G-d is the ultimate Weatherman whose forecasts are always on target and if we are not getting good reception all we need to do is work the dials before us to maximize the gain. It is not G-d who needs changing or adjusting to our understanding of the mechanism before us. Rather , we intuitivly understand that there is Someone far wiser than us and the one who needs to change is us..it is up to us to adapt to His will. But how do we know what He wants? Where do we turn for that guidance, instruction and direction? If the source of all power and knowledge emanates from the builder of the radio station and the radio is the vehicle to bring us what we need to know than it follows that the Source may appear to be distant but if we take the time and make the effort to properly connect through the Torah in front of us we will create the ultimate connection and glean everything we need to know to live a perfect life. We are even encouraged , within the rhelm of remaining properly connected and with a crystal clear connection, to adust the dial to find the right station. As long as the connection to the Source is legitimate than the messages will come through loud and clear. (make sure to avoid fraudsters from hacking into the system) The Torah is our radio and there are 70 different stations. Consult your Local Observant Programmer to determine which frequency is right for you. First and foremost..be willing to turn it on....
