What is on my mind - Facebook has a way of asking this so carelessly and we often answer most carelessly.... Not sharing enough of what really occupies our minds... or what really has our mind churning. How I wish anger was something we could share as a nation. That we were able to have real conversations. Talk around one another without filters. Discuss issues that make each of us look flawed, exposed, failed and worse. Contemplate our history in reality and not as revisionists that make it seem rosier and better - because we refuse to accept the past of our nation - so as to make the future better. These images captured while watching A Place At The Table are horrendous and not all current and as horrific as they might be if gleaned today. magpictures/aplaceatthetable/ Reagan - the man many worship around this nation - could easily be considered the one that led us on the wrong path. Bush Sr. only made the hunger level worse still. Clinton did not allow it to go as South as the Presidents before him. George W. Bush ruined any hope we had with his utter disdain of doing what was correct for our nation and his hunger to protect his obscenely rich buddies at the cost of the grossly hungry and poor. Obama is fairing way better.... But we still CANNOT think that HUNGER is ANYWHERE near end in America. It is ON THE RISE and a PAINFUL reality of more than 50 million people and maybe many more who we just have not accounted for. How we, the citizens of this richest and most advanced nation on the face of the earth can allow our elected officials to get re-elected as they have made the lot of our fellow citizens only worse - is beyond me. Can we please find empathy inside us..... can we find compassion and sympathy... can we find love and caring..... .can we be human again.... Churches have FAILED to reverse the horror of Hunger in America. They have certainly helped some. BUT THEY ARE NOT THE CURE. They are only a very basic help of the MOMENT... not even the day. And what food they are able to afford the food-less - is not even Food. It is GARBAGE that also is sadly a bi-product of our hideously horrific farm subsidies and the vote-hungry vision of our leaders. That food surely is some kind of food for the hungry to eat. But it kills them with new diseases that only make hunger seem better.... This is a sad day and moment in America. We HAVE TO THINK... we have to DEMAND support for ending hunger and for helping the poor and investing in our kids, our youth, our future. Anyone that thinks food insecurity is LESS IMPORTANT THAN DEFENSE - is fooling themselves. The obesity, the hunger and the diseases that are gripping America are killing millions of Americans that no war will ever be able to kill. Lets not sleep when the time has come upon us to act. Please - become active citizens and demand better. Take your local politicians to task - and DEMAND that our GOVERNMENT END HUNGER and not the Churches. WE DO NOT HAVE THE CHURCH COLLECTING MONEY FOR US TO FIGHT OUR WARS. Why then MUST A CHURCH FEED, Clothe, EDUCATE and Nurse our fellow citizens? Grow up - think with introspection, reflection and intelligence - the answer lies in our vote and our voice and with ourselves.
