What is the real problem at Liverpool? In the last 5 years weve seen 3 managers and the board of directors inclusive of scouts and transfer committee somewhat remains the same. The similarities between the 3 managers regarding transfers all 3 bought a number of players, majority average or nowhere near average, sold a few (getting good money in) while spending millions...but from a business perspective accounting practices show good business but at what cost? The cost of silverware that Liverpool once dominated in England and Champions League qualification. Rafa Benitez was starved for funds spending about 230 million pounds in 6 years achieving results far better than the last 3 who have spent more than double in 5 years. Too us supporters we look at the Manager his selections, formations, tactics....and then form an opinion IN or OUT, but the real issue here is deeper than what we see. If Liverpool is to return to its former glory and remain consistent we need to adapt to modern day football and compete with big spenders that are able to both spend and get return on their spending in terms of success. Money talks and if we not going to talk money we have little hope of being consistent in a league that is so competitive not only in play but now also financially. We see every transfer rumuors of losing out on quality players because of salary and although many will say Well if the cant play for the Club and looking for money they can go elsewhere and they do...what we fail to realise is football careers are short most players look to make as much as possible, we seldom going to get or possibly NEVER AGAIN the Steven Gerrards or Jamie Carraghers these days that play for the badge in the front and give their hearts to the city they represent. Players have came in the past and left Liverpool supporters often showing their support for Liverpool in their current teams throughout Europe. With that being said we need to strike a balance on youth developing players and securing quality high demanding salaried players and that change can only come from management high within the hierarchy. My opinion.
