What kind of mother would succumb to cancer? I mean seriously what monster would selfishly choose to die and leave her family alone? Doesnt she know her kids are better off if she didnt get cancer in the first place? For the life of me I cant conceive why a father with multiple sclerosis would traumatize his children by allowing them to see him deteriorate slowly? I just dont understand how he would let that happen? Doesnt he know better? I mean seriously theyd be better off killing themselves than putting that burden on their family..... The above statements sound harsh, judgemental and evil right? Correct!....But why?! Because you CAN NOT choose to have cancer or not. You CAN NOT weigh the risks and benefits to those you love before deciding if cancer has a place in your life. You CAN NOT just delete multiple sclerosis from your body because you know it will cause harm and suffering to those around you. You CAN NOT rationalize with your body when it betrays you. So why then do we think mental disease is any different? Why do all those can nots become cans? Why is it not lumped in with all the physical ailments that we publicly rally around and fight off? Why do we assume that because you dont treat something with chemotherapy or surgery or radiation that it is not a disease but a choice. I believe the sooner we start seeing and truly believing that mental disease is just that. A disease. We as a society will be healthier, happier and safer. RIP Landon. I believe you were a tragic casualty of this disease. I truly hope your death will not be in vain. And that, in hearing your story, someone will seek treatment before the disease becomes terminal.
