What saddening news to wake up to - we have a lost a comedy great, a legend. It goes to prove that even those who walk around with a smile day after day, those who make others laugh and feel good, those who appear to be happy and content can be suffering, silently, on the inside. Depression is an illness that is still thought of as taboo by many, still thought of as just the blues by some and is suffered by thousands of us every single day. I myself battled PND for several years, I looked normal to most but inside I was screaming, almost no one could hear me. Unless you have suffered from, or have witnessed someone close to you suffer from depression, you simply cannot explain it. You cannot explain the sheer desperation that you feel, you cannot explain how you are exhausted because you cannot sleep, you cannot explain how you feel like youre falling down a deep, dark hole without a hand to reach out and break your fall. What I can explain is that its OK to feel like this, its OK to say hey, do you know what, Im not OK, its OK to reach out and ask for help, its OK to cry, its OK to hope. For some, depression doesnt last forever, for some it goes on and on - if you are suffering, if you feel alone, if you feel like you cant go on PLEASE ask for help, do NOT be ashamed or embarrassed - YOU CANNOT HELP THIS, this is NOT your fault. If someone confides in you, if someone reaches out to you, hold them, take their hand and tell them they are not alone, tell them you are by their side. My thoughts are with Robin Williams family today, they havent just lost a man that made them laugh, they have lost a man they loved with all of their hearts. I hope the coming times are gentle on them all. May he rest in peace.
